Frome Central touches the sky - Celebrating the ‘Topping Out’ of Adelaide’s tallest building

The Kyren Group’s much anticipated $150 million Frome Central development - home to the Adelaidean and Crowne Plaza Adelaide - reached its pinnacle construction milestone ‘topping out’ as Adelaide’s tallest building today.

Located diagonally opposite Lot Fourteen in Adelaide’s premier entertainment and cultural hub in the East End precinct, the magnificent mixed-use tower, which incorporates the premium Adelaidean apartments and the Crowne Plaza Adelaide, now stands at its imposing maximum height of 36 levels and 135 metres.

The project's developer, Kyren Group Founder and Managing Director, Theo Samaras, is a proud Adelaidean committed to delivering South Australian projects that provide many hundreds of construction jobs, and in the case of Crowne Plaza, up to 140 ongoing positions in Adelaide’s dynamic East End district.

Following the commencement of construction in February 2018, the dazzling Frome Central has rapidly emerged as an iconic landmark on the Adelaide East End skyline thanks to the visionary design elements of architects Brown Falconer and the commitment and hard work of hundreds of contractors.

The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Sandy Verschoor, was present to celebrate Frome Central reaching its highest point.

“Congratulations to Kyren Group for reaching this milestone on what will be Adelaide’s tallest building,” the Lord Mayor says.

“This striking development will bring an important economic boost to the East End, providing jobs and attracting residents and visitors to the precinct. I look forward to seeing it completed in 2020.”

Capitalising on sweeping views from the hills to the coast, the Adelaidean offers 75 premium city residences and with the ‘Topping Out’ of Frome Central the penthouses will soon be released to the market.

Kyren Group has signed a long-term agreement with IHG to operate the hotel and brand it under the world-renowned Crowne Plaza name, making it one of the few globally-branded hotels in Adelaide to be locally built and owned by a proud South Australian company.

Crowne Plaza Adelaide General Manager, Mrs Sarah Goldfinch, says the hotel will have 329 guest rooms located from the 3rd floor to the 20th floor, including 20 suites, and will include more than 450 square metres of meeting and conference space as well as a stunning Skydeck pool area, bar, restaurant, gym and parking facilities.

“Hotels and accommodation providers employ more than 4,000 South Australians and we are proud that the opening of Crowne Plaza Adelaide will add almost 140 jobs to this total,” Sarah Goldfinch says.

“The recruitment of management roles is almost complete, and we will be embarking on a large employment drive in the coming months to ensure the remaining required staff are recruited, trained and ready to impress - as much as the views!

“The 10th floor lobby Skydeck of the hotel will offer spectacular panoramic views and will incorporate the reception, restaurant and bar, gym, outdoor pool and Crowne Plaza's new public space design area called Plaza Workspace, which marks the future direction for the brand globally.

“Plaza Workspace is an entirely new take on the traditional hotel lobby space, offering inspiring surroundings where hotel guests and locals can feel comfortable to do some work, enjoy a coffee over a business meeting or socialise with friends.”

After thousands of hours of work, Kyren Group acknowledges the many proud South Australian companies that have shared the vision and passion to deliver Frome Central to be ready to open in April 2020.

Kyren Group Project Manager, John Besir, has been overseeing the Frome Central project and is delighted Adelaide’s tallest building has reached its pinnacle point.

Frome Central details:

More than 200 jobs were created during construction and the vast majority of contractors were local South Australians.

Due for completion in the first half of 2020.

More than 15000 cubic metres of concrete have been poured.

More than 2200 tonnes of steel reinforcement.

Crowne Plaza Adelaide details:

The mixed-use building is home to the Crowne Plaza Adelaide – a globally branded hotel in Adelaide owned and run by a South Australian company.

It will have 329 guest rooms, located from 3rd floor to the 20th floor, including 20 suites. All rooms will have floor to ceiling windows, the latest in-room technology and the highest quality furniture and fittings. All guestrooms have been carefully designed with zones to enable both comfort and connectivity.

Guests will enter the hotel through a porte-cochère at street level and then take a lift up to the 10th floor lobby Skydeck incorporating the Plaza Workspace.

Throughout the Plaza Workspace there is an abundance of access to power, wireless phone chargers integrated in the tables, and access to high-speed WiFi, designed to answer the growing trend in flexible work and life preferences, and people’s desire to work from anywhere.

Alongside the newly designed spaces, the Crowne Plaza brand has challenged the preconceptions of hotel food, and developed a new food and drink offering that fits with the preferences of today’s travellers and locals.
